Demonstratie Energie- en Klimaatinnovatie (DEI+)
Subsidy for pilot and demonstration projects that reduce CO2 emissions.
DEI+ is for innovation: projects that test or demonstrate technologies with technical or economic risk. It differs from VEKI, which is aimed at proven technologies. For energy-intensive companies, DEI+ can be relevant when new flexibility, heat, hydrogen, CCUS or efficiency concepts need demonstration. The 2026 round closed on 30 July 2026; consult RVO for the next round.

Where the opportunity is
- Pilot projects in realistic environments.
- Demonstration projects new to the Netherlands.
- Energy efficiency, renewable energy, flexibility, infrastructure, circular economy, CCUS, hydrogen and other CO2-reduction themes.
- Projects where innovation risk needs to be shared before commercial rollout.
Key conditions to check
- The project must reduce CO2 emissions in the Netherlands within 10 years.
- The project duration is generally limited to 4 years.
- Do not start the project or make commitments before applying.
- Technical and economic feasibility must be well substantiated.
Do not let the subsidy choose the technology.
COMCAM can help determine whether a project is truly innovation (DEI+) or proven rollout (VEKI/EIA/SDE++), and connect the innovation to market value, energy portfolio impact and operational feasibility.
Common pitfalls
- Choosing DEI+ for a project that is no longer innovative enough.
- Starting too early or making commitments before the application.
- Not proving market chance, financing and CO2 impact clearly.
Practical next steps
- Define the innovation and why it is new or risky.
- Quantify CO2 impact and market potential.
- Prepare financing evidence for the own contribution.
- Prepare the file for the next round; consult RVO for the opening date.
