When the day-ahead price turns negative, generating costs money twice: on the electricity itself, and on the subsidy. For SDE++ grants issued from 2023, support falls away in every quarter hour the price is negative, from 200 kW per connection. For grants issued between 2016 and 2022, support falls away only when the negative price runs for six continuous hours, so curtailing too early gives away revenue.
