Cable pooling places the installations of up to four parties behind one connection to the public grid. Under the Energiewet this is no longer limited to wind and solar: storage, buildings and charging infrastructure can share the connection too. The parties behave as one connected party under one connection and transport agreement, their installations must sit in each other's direct vicinity with no other grid connection, and they are themselves responsible for staying within the shared contracted capacity.
Four parties, one connection, one agreement
Below is an illustrative year of four parties sharing one connection to the public grid, each using part of the same limit. Under the Energiewet they are not limited to wind and solar, and they carry the limit together.
Picture four installations behind a single connection: a wind turbine, a solar field, a battery and a charging hub. To the grid operator they are one connected party under one connection and transport agreement, and keeping the combined load inside the shared capacity is their own responsibility rather than the grid operator's.
The mix shifts, the limit does not
Wind carries January and solar carries July, but the ceiling the four share stays the same all year. That is what makes one connection enough for four.
Staying inside it is on the parties
No grid operator caps this for them. The four agree a mechanism between themselves, or the values in the shared agreement get exceeded.
